Many people think of Cambodia as a country that is rich in natural resources, but with decades of wars and internal conflicts it has left Cambodia as one of the world’s poorest countries.

Living conditions

The Cambodians are in desperate need of help in sustaining housing. Many Cambodians live in a small hut on stilts made out of wood or even bamboo that have no electricity and running water. Their main sources of food is often rice and fish. Most of the villages have about 100 to 400 families living there.
About two thirds of Cambodia, which is about 1.6 million rural households face seasonal food shortage each year. Most of them depend on agriculture for their livelihood , but there is at least 12 per cent of poor people that are landless.  Rice production in Cambodia suffers from low productivity at times and poor storage, that results in large loss.  Their agriculture practices depend on rain rather than irrigation which makes it vulnerable to floods and drought.  Cambodia needs Canadian international Development Agency to help build homes for the families that can't afford to build or fix their homes. They also need help in providing food for their families.  Providing the Cambodian's with the proper equipment and training to help them learn sustainable farming techniques, will help them greatly to break the cycle of poverty.
